Abstract

The comprehensive nuclear Test Ban Treaty is a multilateral treaty that bans all nuclear explosions, for both civilian and military purposes, in all environments. For the first time in 1948, India tabled a resolution in the United Nation General Assembly (UNGA) stating its support for the Atomic Energy Commission's proposal for controlling atomic energy for peaceful purposes and the elimination from national armament of atomic weapons since the 1950s, the question of the cessation of nuclear weapon tests has been a prime objective of the United Nations. It has been a separate, agenda of the General Assembly each year since 1957.
