Beauvoir points out the fact that from the very beginning man has considered woman as ‘The other’ or ‘second sex’. The various biblical stories affirm that a woman is by product of man’s body. God did not spontaneously choose her to create as an end in herself. She was destined by him for man to rescue Adam for loneliness. In this sense woman was a conscious being but she was naturally submissive.
