Abstract

Literacy level and educational attainment are vital developmental indicators in a developing nation like India as they are key variable of measure of development as they indicate quality of life, awareness level and level of skill of people in the society. The status of women and level of literacy positively correlated. On the other hand, decline in sex ratio has become a serious problem in India and it presumed that literate females easily understand the consequences of sinking sex ratio. The knowledge of literacy and sex ratio is essential for the understanding the condition of women in society. The present study is an attempt to analyze correlation between female literacy and child sex ratio at block level in Fatehabad district. The study reveals that correlation between child sex ratioand female literacy is -0.43773. It is a moderate negative correlation.Thechild sex ratioand female literacy has moved opposite direction in Fatehabad. This decline in sex ratio is suggestive ofthe neglect of girl children, sex selective abortions andtraditional attributes ofthe society.
