The bad news about business ethics: your career can be irrevocably damaged if you mishandle an ethical issue. But there’s also good news: Many ethical issues in business are quite predictable. You can be fairly certain that during the course of your career, you’ll run into myriad ethical problems such as a customer who asks for a special deal or terms, or questions about the appropriate use of corporate resources, or discrimination of one sort or another. Since many ethical issues are somewhat predictable, you have a better chance of dealing appropriately with ethical problems if you think about what’s likely to happen before it occurs.

Busy professionals have a lot of demands on their time and allocating time for yoga just doesn’t factor. But what if they understood the potential benefits to their work and home lives? Stress in the workplace today is a major consideration for employers and anything that can be introduced to alleviate this is a potential benefit to both employers and the employees. Less stressful employees will be more productive and are less likely to need time off through illness. Less stressful employees are likely to have happier home lives and this in turn leads to increased productivity. I believe yoga is not only an activity you should put in your life, but one that employers should actively encourage, either by establishing classes, or even allotting time in the work day for training sessions.

The concept of institutional racism emerged in 1967. This first part of the article traces the origins and context of the termin the black power movement of the 1960s. Its subsequent adoption by sociology shows its engagement with issues of race and racism, though sociology itself became the object of critique for its understanding and explanation of racial inequalities. Links and differences between the USA and Britain are used to reflect on the different public roles of their national sociological associations. The second section draws on the example of the Macpherson inquiry and its difficulty in conceptualizing institutional racism. This shows that sociology’s public role is contested and that trying to develop a public voice through the media is challenging. Overall, while focusing on some of the problems for developing public sociology, the article argues that confronting such problems is essential for the vitality of the discipline.

Political participation and empowerment is one of the fundamental challenges to which women across the world, including those in Russia, have been confronted with. Art 19 of the Russian Constitution grants equal rights to men and women, however, in practice this had become redundant and ineffective due to varied reasons. Towards the end of 1980s, the Soviet gender system came under scrutiny as its institutional and ideological underpinnings were transformed, having implications for women at large. Consequently gender relations and ideals were reworked in a number of arenas, including politics. Discrimination against women was not just limited to the domestic realm, but also visible in almost all aspects of their life, including politics.

In most rural villages of Rampur District of Uttar Pradesh, poultry are left to scavenge around housing compounds during the daytime to obtain whatever feed they may be able to find in the environment, often offal, insects or seeds. Owing to these free range and scavenging habits, traditional village poultry are in permanent contact with soil and insects (Pandeyet al. 1992). Indian soils, especially when humid and warm, may serve as an important reservoir and transmission site for external larval stages of helminthes. Similarly, any insects that may act as vectors for helminths are also favored by such climatic conditions.

Career is the sphere in which a person’s individuality is expressed and rewarded. A woman’s commitment to a career reflects her desire to fulfil her own potential. It amounts to the rejection of an identity based solely on a relationship-as a mother, wife or a daughter. An Indian woman, in the past, has been denied of opportunities to come up professionally in life. Early marriage and Purdah system confined her to her home. Her identity is deeply embedded in the entire family and her roles as wife and mother were given importance.
