Abstract
It is said railways is the lifeline of a country and the backbone of its economy as well. Railways was introduced in European countries other than England much earlier and that too under the initiative of the governments in order to facilitate movements of armies, to expedite national development and to ensure national security but in England railways was established in the interest of industry with the financial assistance of the capitalists.
