Abstract

The occurrence of corpora lutea or post ovulatory follicles in fishes has been a topic of considerable controversy. Most investigators opinion that the discharged follicles in majority of oviparous teleosts reorganise to form a corpus luteum. In some fishes, however, the discharged follicles are reported to collapse becoming pycnotic and rapidly merge with the ovarian stroma (Beach, 1959; Barr, 1963; Guraya et al., 1969a, b and de Vlamming, 1972).
