STUDY THE PROBLEMS IN THE EDUCATION OF CHILDREN OF THE PAVEMENT DWELLERS FAMILIES IN KOLKATA CITY

Abstract

The subject of our research is the problems in the education of children of the pavement dwellers families in Kolkata city. The two objectives we have studied are - To find out the problems in the education of children of Pavement Dwellers Families and to know how much the Pavement Dwellers Family is aware of their child’s education. The results we obtained through face-to-face interviews, pre-structure interviews and participatory observation techniques are - Extreme Poverty, The inappropriate learning environment, Lack of parental education, Difficulty to get admission in school, Child labour, Lack of awareness in education, Lack of Educational Aids, Lack of guide in education, Parents are drug-addicted, Lack of food, lack of electricity. The study has been conducted in the place of College street, Rajabazar, Amherst Street, Sealdah, Surya Sen Street, Ratan Street, Moulali, Mollikbazar, Chandni Chowk, Bowbazar, Barabazar, Girish Park, Shovabazar, Babughat, Dharmatola of Kolkata district. Both the qualitative research method and quantitative research method have been used for the study. This study reveals that most of the parents are interested in their children's education and they want their children not to live like them.
