Abstract

This article provides a theoretical consideration meditation and psycho-physical functioning based on research review conducted during last 45 years aimed to explore the meditation techniques and variables of health and functioning. Research was organized by meditation technique, samples, and outcome areas with study information. While the vast majority of the findings support the effectiveness of meditation practices in cultivating positive psychological health and functioning, supporting the beneficial conclusions. Literature review revealed that meditation is related to anxiety, mood, affect, schizophrenia, menstrual irregularities, and cognitive functioning.
