Emotional intelligence isn't a brand-new idea. Employers have always used many traits to forecast a job applicant's future job performance in the past. Cognitive capacity, prior behaviors, talents, personality, and job-related competences are examples of such attributes. Emotional intelligence has now been added to that category, and it is becoming increasingly popular. Emotional intelligence (EI or EQ) is a person's ability to not only be aware of, but also to comprehend, their own and others' emotions, and to use that knowledge to control how they react and respond in social situations. After Goleman's book Emotional Intelligence was published in the 1990s, the concept became popular. Since then, more research has been done on the notion, and it is frequently used to improve interpersonal interactions, but it is also commonly employed in the workplace.
