Abstract

Natural hazards such as earthquakes cause heavy loss to life and property. Hence, they should be given an important consideration in tourism development in regions vulnerable to it. The Himalayan region of India, specifically Himachal Pradesh also has a long history of earthquakes and continually experiencing great seismicity. The region also falls in Seismic region IV and V which is highly prone to earthquake hazard. Hence, the present study necessitates the need of Seismic Hazard Analysis of the area, before considering it for tourism development. As, there has been rapid construction and rise in population in Himachal Pradesh including Kangra region. But, focus on earthquake, Seismic Hazard analysis and possible mitigation measures have often been neglected.
