Abstract

The industries sector of the country was considered one of the alternatives to the disguised agriculture sector. Among these industrial sectors, construction and manufacturing were expected to have a huge potential to absorb and employ the workers who are moved away from agriculture. Especially when new economic reforms were introduced in 1991, it was expected the manufacturing industries will be alternative for these labour transitions. There was a sharp rise and expansion of the manufacturing industries in the country. The growth of employment in the sector was not grown as expected and as per the overall growth of the sector. Employment in the manufacturing sector has been almost stagnated for years. The share of manufacturing employment in total employment was around 12 percent for years during this post reforms period. Even after the multifold increase in the number of factories, employment was not grown as expected in the manufacturing industries.
