Abstract

The present paper dwells upon the comparison and the contrast between the status of women in two well known non canonical Buddhist literatures Samantapasadika and Divyavdana. These texts amply focus on the fact that there continued to be a fabulous flow of the masses towards adoption of Buddhism as they were deprived of social equality and human dignity in the orthodox human society. Both these texts also mention discrimination against women obtaining in the society.
