Abstract

During the years 2019-2020, a study was conducted in various villages in the Kharkhoda block of Sonipat district, Haryana, to assess the quality of groundwater for irrigation of various crops. Fifty one water samples were collected and analysed for various parameters such as pH, EC, cations (Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+, and K+), and anions (CO3 2-, HCO3 -, Cl4-, and SO2-) using standard procedures in order to determine the quality of groundwater. For these samples, irrigation indices such as SAR and RSC were calculated. In groundwater, pH, EC, SAR, and RSC ranged from 6.86 to 8.95, 0.58 to 13.90 dS m-1, 3.69 to 28.80 (mmol L-1)1/2, and 0.00-4.80 me L-1, respectively. Na+ > Mg2+ > Ca2+ > K+ was the trend in average ionic concentrations of cations and anions. Cl4-> SO 2- >HCO3 -> CO3 2- were the anions.
