A COMPARISON OF SPORTS COMPETITION ANXIETY BETWEEN MEDALIST AND NON-MEDALIST WUSHU FEMALE ATHLETES

Abstract

The study was conducted to assess the Sports Competition Anxiety of female wushu athletes and to compare the sports competition anxiety between medalist and non-medalist female wushu athletes. Sport Competition Anxiety Test (SCAT) developed by Martens et al 1990 was administered on 60 female wushu athletes who had participated in the Delhi State Wushu Championship. Findings of the study revealed that the medalist as well as the non- medalist female wushu athletes had average level of sports competition anxiety before the competition as the mean score obtained were 17.76± 2.348 and 22.24± 2.759 respectively while the mean score of the medalist female wushu athletes was significantly lower as compared to non- medalist female wushu athletes as the ‘t’ value obtained was 2.475 with p< 0.006 which signifies that the medalist female wushu athletes possesses lower sports competitive anxiety before the competition as compared to the non-medalist female wushu athletes.
