Abstract

In the new economy, microfinance is a potent tool for reducing poverty. As a successful method of providing financial services to the "Un-reached Poor," Self Help Groups and Commercial Bank Linkage Programs dominate the microfinance scene in India. This has successfully addressed the financial needs of poor rural women and built up their group self-help skills, which has aided in their empowerment.
