Abstract

The elections of 1946 in India changed the politicalhistory of the subcontinent.The All-India Muslim League (AIML) emerged as a potent political force on the political scene in India and Punjab. The League won seventy-five of the total Muslim seats in the Punjab Provincial Assembly.The Pre-Partition Punjab was a Muslim majority province,the massive victory in elections strengthened the prospects of the League. The elections of 1946in the Punjab had great impact on the Punjabi communities,for survival, these communitiessupportedvarious political partiesbased ontheir religious affiliations.
