Abstract

ABSTRACT A study was conducted on the “Role of street food in the dietary pattern of low- income –group” (15-30 yrs) in the Meerut area of Uttar Pradesh. Streets foods are an important source of nutrients for low-income-group .This study aimed to identify determinants of the proportion of daily energy provided by non-home prepared foods. The result regarding general information & dietary pattern of the respondents revealed that majority of them were working far from their home. Cheap cost, easy availability, variety in the diet , its taste & time saving quality encouraged them to buy street food as their main source of meal. Maximum respondents were consuming street food almost every day and spent a lot of money on purchase of street food. 24hours dietary recall method revealed that mean intake of nutrients i.e. energy , protein , carbohydrate , calcium and iron was found to be lower, as intake of fat was higher among all the respondents.
