Abstract

In Asia and Africa, the women entrepreneurship has been associated with poverty alleviation programs (Woldie and Adersua,2004) and they are motivated by a combination of push factors (e.g. poverty and unemployment) and pull factors (e.g. the need to be independent) (Jamali, 2009).Women entrepreneurship plays vital role in both domestic and global business environment . There are about 190 million women entrepreneurs in 59 countries (ILO, 2010). Today, women are entering all fields such as trade, industry and engineering. Many Indian Women have attained protuberant positions such as Indira Nooyi, Chanda Kocher, Shenaz Hussain, Ekta Kapoor, Meena Bindra etc. Women entrepreneurship contributes to self-employment, income generation, female education and awareness and hence contibutes towards the overall development of the country. In rural India, agriculture and allied industrial sectors employ as much as 89.5% of the total female labour. In overall farm production, women's average contribution is estimated at 55% to 66% of the total labour. According to a 1991 World Bank report, women accounted for 94% of total employment in dairy production in India. Women constitute 51% of the total employed in forest-based small-scale enterprises
