Abstract

Abstract: Trade liberalization polices of WTO cause a serious threat in Indian agriculture. Area and production of paddy cultivation was decreasing very alarmingly in the state of Kerala. A large section of the paddy farmers shifted their profession to more remunerative sectors which caused stagnation of agricultural production in the state. Reducing agricultural subsidies, removing quantitative restrictions of agriculture commodities, lowering the prices by increasing unbalanced competition are the end results of structural adjustment programme promoted by World Bank and WTO in India.
