Abstract

This paper explores the importance of human health in general and maternal health in particular. Health is one of the prime concerns of human society. Healthy people of a society are the real assets of a country and the prosperity and development of a country depends on healthy citizens. Half of the population of our society is female, and the female hood gets fulfillment when they become mothers. So, without healthy mothers a really developed society is impossible. Therefore, in 2000 UNO solemnly sets maternal health as one of the eight Millennium Development Goals to be achieved by 2015 (maternal health has been prioritized in the 5th position among the Eight goals). Technically maternal health refers to the health of women during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. It encompasses the health care dimensions of family planning, preconception, prenatal, and postnatal care in order to reduce maternal morbidity and mortality. Morigaon is one of the backward districts of Assam. The different programmes of development for maternal health have been working since 2005 under National Rural Health Mission. The main objectives of this study are (a) to assess the status of maternal health under different parameters, and (b) To find out related cause of infant mortality rate of Morigaon district.
