Abstract

Agriculture is the main stay of Indian economy as it provides the employment to more than 49 percent of our population and it also enriched the country in food grain production. Afterindependence our country witnessed a mass growth in population. The growth of agriculture is also satisfied but not sufficient to full fil the requirement of a country with a population of 121 crores. In this situation adoption of new technology and transformation of crops played most important role. In the recent years, the farmers are shifting towards horticulture crops from the traditional crops with the adoption of new technology in farming. The present research work is an attempt in this direction and examined the area, production and productivity of horticulture crops in Haryana. The result revealed that growth in production was due to the growth in area and productivity and mainly affected by the increase in area under horticulture crops. Study also revealed that the growth rate in area was maximum in vegetables while the growth rate in the production and productivity of flowers was maximum during the study period.
