PRADHAN MANTRI JAN DHAN YOJANA AS A CATALYST FOR FINANCIAL INCLUSION IN INDIA

Abstract

Financial Inclusion is the delivery of banking services at an affordable cost to the vast sections of disadvantaged and low income groups. The financial Inclusion Plan aims at providing easy access to financial services to the poor sections of the society. Financial inclusion is an innovative concept which enables the alternative techniques to promote the banking habits and acts as mechanism in reducing the poverty and the launch of Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) by Government of India is in that direction. The scheme is not only limited to opening of a bank account but offers other benefits with it viz. zero balance bank account with RuPay debit card, in addition to accidental insurance cover of Rs.1 lakh to those who got their accounts opened by January 26, 2015 over and above the Rs.1 lakh accident, they will be given life insurance cover of Rs. 30,000, etc. This paper attempts to discuss the overview of financial inclusion using PMJDY in India.
