Abstract

The idea about the Revolt of 1857 which started at Meerut and its spread towards the North East India. It also gives us the information on how the people of the North East reacted to this Revolt. As the British followed the policy of annexation in North East India like they did with the rest of the Indian subcontinent, it created discontentment among the people of this region. Therefore, when the wave of the revolt reached North East India the people readily took part in the revolt against the British. Their zeal and sacrifice in this Uprising for the protection of their homeland had an immense impact on the British rule. However, despite their outmost attempt to defeat the Britishers they failed. Against this background the present study covered the role of north east people in the 1857 revolt. The required documents were collected from the state and national achieves. Various books on the concerned topic have been consulted. Also research paper from different journal has been used. The data collected from different secondary sources written by different scholars and historians. The study reflects the policy of British Government towards North East and discontentment among the people.
