Abstract

The impacts of climate change are more visible in vulnerable and sensitive region and hilly region of Uttarakhand represents one such region. The present paper focuses on the impact of climate change on human health in Garhwal region of Uttarakhand. Climate change is a major global environmental and developmental problem which certainly leads to the health problems of living beings. Uttarakhand is the most vulnerable to climate mediated risks. Climate change leads to extremes and violent weather events such as flash floods, erratic rainfall, depleting natural resources, draught, heat waves, receding of glaciers etc. which leads to various health issues for the human beings. Climate change affects the fundamental requirements for health that is clean air, safe drinking water, sufficient food and secure shelter. Therefore, the main objective of the present study is to deal with the very issue of climate change and its effect on human health in Garhwal region of Uttarakhand.
