Abstract
The adult literacy rates has increased in most of the places all over the world since the past two decades. The statistical report of UNESCO indicates that the world is rapidly dropping the illiteracy rates, but the question is then why such an illiterate act of gender violence exists and tops the current place in the list global issues. A number of factors within social and cultural systems cause gender discrimination like traditional value system, more house hold responsibilities, lack of awareness, non-availability of proper guidance, low mobility, lack of self-confidence, family discouragement, poverty, illiteracy, unemployment, social customs, beliefs, anti-female attitude, silence, superiority and inferiority complexes, caste systems and female infanticide, slavery system, particularly misinterpretation of religion or half knowledge, etc. It is the humans who have created and named such political terms as ‘gender’ and ‘gender roles’, in order to achieve their goals, be it attaining the powerful position or maintaining it within the social system, administrative system, or any ecological system.
