Abstract

Higher education has been identified as one of the important elements of national development efforts and a number of attempts have been made in this respect. Despite theseattempts, the higher education system in India suffers from many shortcomings. Addressing these shortcomings is very important to make the higher education in India a success. The present research paper attempts to look at the governance and quality of higher education in India, and suggests that regular monitoring and evaluation of quality of higher education and research is important apart from adding the new infrastructure and opportunities.
