Abstract

The role of ICT has been well-accepted in resolving various socio-economic and administrative issues. However, ICT experts and social scientists are skeptical of ICTs capabilities in poverty alleviation. The major reason for this is being the widening digital divide in developing countries. The digital divide in India is growing especially in rural areas. The digital divide is manifested in gender realm aswell. The major argument of the paper is that unless India addresses the issue of digital divide, the question of poverty reduction is difficult to be achieved.
