Abstract

Tuberculosis, one of the oldest problems of poverty, is still a significant public health problem in spite of socio-economic developments. Globally, India is the country with the highest burden of TB, which significantly adds to human suffering and socio economic burden. India has continuously tried to combat Tuberculosis since the early 1940s. National Tuberculosis Programme (NTP) and Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme (RNTCP) have been an important part of India’s strategy to control Tuberculosis. The paper highlights some significant aspects of both programmes and also analyses programme strategies, conceptual changes and its implications due to shifting from NTP to RNTCP.
