Abstract

The National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA), enacted in August 2005, is one such program in India. The main and immediate objectives of the act is to enhance livelihood security to the rural areas by providing at least 150 days of guaranteed wage employment in a financial year to every household whose adult members volunteers to do unskilled manual work.Sikkim, a small state of north-east India has the population of only 6.07 lakhs (2011 census)It is remotely located in the north-eastern part of the country with no air or rail connectivitywithin a radius of 100 km from the state capital.
