Abstract

The present study was conducted to study Emotional Intelligence in relation to self-confidence of 100 male and female prospective secondary school teachers pursuing B.Ed. from Mohali (Pb.) The strength of female teachers was more than male. Average age of all participants was 24 years.Teachers Emotional Intelligence Inventory (tEQi) by Mangal. (2008) was used for assessing emotional intelligence of school teachers which revolves round four areas viz., (i) Awareness of self and others, (ii) Professional Orientation, (iii) Intra-personal Management or self regulation and (iv) Inter-personal Management. Self Confidence Inventory (1987) in Hindi by Agnihotry was used to assess the self confidence of the teachers.. It was found that 7 and below raw scores showed very high self-confidence and 45 and above raw scores showed very low self-confidence of the sample population. The results of the study reveals that there is a significant correlation between Emotional Intelligence and Self-confidence of prospective secondary school teachers. No significant difference was found between the emotional intelligence of male and female teachers and also between arts and science teachers but a significant difference was found in the self-confidence of male and female teachers.
