Women are consisting almost fifty per cent share of the human population in all societies of the world. But they are the most disadvantaged sections of the society. They are the victims of discrimination and exploitation in social, political and economic spheres of life in almost all social structures and Indian women are no exception. But here it is all done on the basis of the Hindu religious scriptures. In Indian society, women were being treated like things. They are not treated equally in the society like their male counterparts. According to the Hindu Shastras they have no rights for their development; they cannot move nor do anything at their will. In Hindu Shastras women of all categories have been considered like animals and slaves. From the verses of Manusmriti, one can easily understand that what status has been given to the women of our society.
