Abstract

The present review discusses the need and importance of medicinal plants. The present study revealed that 24 plant species belonging to 16 families, plant parts and local name are used in medicinal purpose and traditional health care system is an old age practice in this area. About 80 percent of the world’s population depends partially or wholly on traditional medicine for its primary health care needs. Herbal medicines are the major remedy in traditional medical system have been used in medical practice for thousands of years and have made a great contribution to maintain human health. The present work suggests an impressive coordination for strengthening medicinal plant area in district Burdwan (Baradhaman).
