Abstract

Banks serves as the backbone to the financial sector, which facilitates the proper utilization of financial resources of a country. Banking sector is also facing various ups and downs but its contribution is always counted for the economy. Being the backbone of economy it should always endeavor for delivering the best value. Value creation is a nexus, where all assets, system and subsystem of organization are channelized towards the achievement of stated goal and objectives. In this direction the role of human resource (Skills, abilities, know-how etc) can't be left in lurch. The output of the banking sector is dependent on the quality of human resources. Work–life balance (WLB) is one of the important issues in HRM in achieving individual and organizational well being. Work-life balance is a much –warned term and sometime it is difficult to know what it in actuality means. Competing and multi-faced demands between work and home responsibilities have assumed increased relevance for bank employees in recent years, due in large part to demographic and workplace changes, transformation in family structures, a growing reluctance to accept the longer hours culture, technological advancements, the challenge of managing work and family owing to the banking rule of completion of all works on same day itself even after the normal working hours and their personal commitments. The way of how work-life balance can be achieved and enhanced is an important issue in the field of human resource management and has received significant attention from employers, workers, government, academic researchers, the popular media and society at large. This paper attempts to discuss the issues related with managing professional and personal life of employees in banking sector and also endeavors to explore the challenges associated with Work – life balance of employees of the banking sector.
