Abstract

South African female novelist Bessie Head is one of the eminent coloured fiction writers who presents miseries, discrimination and misfortunes of women which she herself experienced. She focuses the sorry state of woman due to traditions and her gender through her literary contribution of novels, plays and short stories; she exhibits the miseries of women as well as migrants during the colonial period. The present paper presents Bessie Head’s portrayal of women’s tribulations because of the colour of her skin, superstitions and traditions.
