Abstract

Industry can be seen as one of the major macro-economic factors that drive the economy of any country and much industrial growth has been witnessed in many parts of India. The government, in the North East Industrial Policy, 1997, announced some new fiscal benefits in the form of incentives and subsidies to induce attract and support investors in setting up industrial units in the state. However, within the state of Meghalaya the industrial sector has been trying to keep pace with developments in the national industrial sector. This is mainly because of socio-demographic and work-related issues that have been persisting in the state for a very long time. It is learnt that the industrial units in the state suffer from a fairly high employee turnover and low commitment rate that could be attributed to low job satisfaction. This paper will look at related literature concerning job satisfaction and leadership studies and suggest the various objectives of a study that could be carried out in Meghalaya.
