Abstract
Agriculture is the major source of livelihood for the bulk of Indian rural population. It employs nearly 52 percent of the total workforce and shares almost 14 percent of the Gross Domestic Product of India. It is also an important source of raw material and demand for many industrial products. India’s agriculture sector is characterized by traditional, subsistence and livelihood, rain fed farming, food grain oriented, lacking in diversification and commercialization.
