Abstract

The euphoria about AAP spectacular debut has slowly but surely started to sink in. Though it is early days to comment on whether the AAP has been a success or a miss, the events unfolding in the last one month raise some serious questions about the future prospects of the Delhi government in particular and the party in general. In the last one month which has gone by since AAP came into picture, they have come under intense scrutiny one after the another and one controversy has followed the other. The antics they have used and the posturing they have taken have forced the observers to question their idea of democracy. They fear that democracy under kejriwal rule has been slowly converted into mobocracy. The AAP it seems does not want to come out of agitation mode and involve itself into some serious politics for the betterment of the people. The first daunting task before them was to provide free supply of water up to a limit to the households and drastically cut the electricity tariff. Far from solving the issue, things have become much more complex than before. For example, what about a large percent of Delhi population who do not have piped supply of water and how many houses in Delhi actually have water meters installed at their houses.
