Abstract

A literary text is bound to be located in a definite socio-cultural context producing ideological positions, both explicit and implicit that makes a reading or interpretation meaningful. Hence, in this article an attempt would be made to interpret the novel Nishiddha Prithivi by the acclaimed Oriya novelist Pratibha Ray from a feminist perspective by investigating the politics of gender in the novel in its treatment of theme like love, sex, marriage, individual identity, characterization, dialogue, narrative technique, images, simile, and metaphors
