Abstract

Microfinance is the provision of fmancial services to those excluded from the formal financial system. It is a process which includes fmancial intermediation such as supplying credit, savings and insurance products with a goal towards social intermediation such as reducing poverty and enabling empowerment. Among the real and potential clients of microfinance, women are seen as the most appropriate targeted beneficiaries, since it is argued that in contrast to men, the entire household benefits when the loans are given to women.
