International scientific experts reported in the UN Millennium Ecosystem Report (2005) that substantial and critical world ecosystems are under enormous stress requiring immediate and responsible action locally, nationally and globally. The challenge exists, however, whether local communities can reduce their ecological footprints by adopting more sustainable lifestyle regimes. Efforts are being made all over the world to increase the sustainability of development patterns which is one of the UN Millennium Development Goals to be achieved by 2015.But paradox is: ‘We are encouraged to spend money we don’t have,on things we don’t need,to create impressions that don’t last,on people we don’t care about.’
