Some material characteristics of alumina ceramics, e.g., porosity Young’s modulus and Poisson’s ratio, have been evaluated using ultrasonic sound velocity. The longitudinal and transverse velocities of an ultrasonic sound wave in alumina ceramics decreased proportionally with increasing porosity.Young’s modulus has been calculated from longitudinal and transverse ultrasonic velocities. Young’s modulus depends on porosity.
