Abstract China has been frustrated with the slow pace of reforms, governance and greater input in global established institutions like the IMF, World Bank and Asian Development Bank. An Asian Development Bank (ADB) Report states that Asia needs US $800 billion for infrastructure investment every year till 2020. Against this, the ADB, dominated by Japan, which is also a founding member, lends no more than $10 billion a year for infrastructure. With the American- dominated World Bank and the Europe- led IMF also remaining hamstrung; the need for a multilateral body to finance the growth region of the world was real. Therefore, China came up with the idea to setup ‘multilateral development bank’ to lend money exclusively to Asia. It is hoped that the new bank will allow China which has enormous capital, to finance these projects and allow it a greater role to play in the economic development of the region consummate with its growing economic and political clout. The AIIB is expected to begin operations from 2015 with senior Chinese banker, Jin Liqun, ex-chairman of investment bank China International Capital Corp expected to be taking a lead role. The authorized capital of the bank will be $100 billion, however, the initial capital of the bank will be $50 billion. Out of the total capital, around 50 percent will be provided by China.Headquarter of the bank will be situated in Beijing.

Abstract

Quest for peace and smooth life is a very dominating theme in R. K. Narayan’s fiction. Most of the protagonists of his short stories and novels struggle in their respective fields of life as they attempt to come out of social, financial, political and moral quagmires to achieve their cherished goals of life. Ironically, all of his novels are circular in progress as the main character of his each story reaches the same place and situation of life after long journey of struggle from where he had begun. During this progressive route, there is a lot of learning for the characters and they come to realize that life is full of sudden developments and much is beyond human actions and control. There prevail some divine or supernatural powers which control the cosmos. In Swami and Friends, The English Teacher, The Financial Expert, The Guide, The Man- Eater of Malgudi, Waiting for the Mahatama and The Vendor of Sweets and many of his short stories such as The Astrologer’s Day, The Engine Trouble etc. Narayan reveals the efforts of human beings in the quest of peaceful living and domestic tranquility.

Abstract

Introduction As far as women are concerned, they have been deprived of their rights, but reminded of their duties till recently. However, as time is fleeting, with the fleeting time women role has been undergoing drastic changes. It has been changed from child bearing and rearing to Bread- winner. Thus, the new socio-economic milieu is making it inevitable for them to come across vis-à-vis the emerging facts in the contemporary Indian society. Woman is a fascinating subject for study. In spite of comprising 50 percent populations on the globe, women have not been given equal status with men. A major part of this sentiment can be attributed to gender role socialization that operates in the society. This differential socialization raises boys and girls for different roles. However, if the total involvement is taken into account, Woman plays multiplicity of roles that far exceeds those of her counterparts.

A nonlinear method to obtain source parameters is explained. The source parameters estimated are 0, fc, and Q. The method is called the Occam’s method. The source parameters are needed to be estimated to estimate various properties of earthquake and may be used in several studies for ex. attenuation estimation of earthquake and later on for estimating seismic hazard scenario of a given region. The procedure involves computing of Jacobian of a matrix and is an iterative non-linear process. The code is written in MATLAB environment. The data used for application is from PESMOS.

Abstract

Many companies pursue growth indiscriminately, not prioritizing the types of growth that create the most value. Value spells out how different types of growth create different amounts of value. Introducing a new product or increasing share in a growing market, for instance, yields between three and eight times more value than acquisitions do. Although companies often engage in financial engineering, this rarely creates value, and sometimes it erodes or destroys value. More often than not, financial engineering merely redistributes investors' claims on cash flow, and it isn't worth the trouble. One only has to look at the recent financial crisis for a glaring example of how financial engineering (complex CDOs) can destroy enormous value for companies and even entire economies.

The entrepreneur as the coordinator of production and agent of change (‘creative destruction’). As such the “Schumpeterian” entrepreneur is above else an innovator. Scholars who share this view of entrepreneurship do not consider entrepreneurship to be very important in earlier stages of economic development – they see the contribution of entrepreneurship to be much more important at later stages of development, where economic growth is driven by knowledge and competition. At earlier stages of development, entrepreneurship may play a less pronounced role because growth is largely driven by factor accumulation).

Abstract

Indian agriculture drew most of its inputs locally from the village and the farm. Modern inputs, like chemical fertilizers, pesticides, tractors and other agricultural implements, pump sets, diesel, gas and power, had little import in the overall agricultural inputs. Agro-industries were essentially perceived as first level post-harvest processing of farm produce. Agro, village, cottage and rural industries meant the same set of economic activities. The expressions were interchangeable. Even when agro-industries have been assigned a special place in the successive Five Year Plans, a good deal of confusion continues to persist regarding their coverage. It is not very clear whether agro-industries are to denote only the activities directly related to agriculture or the total farm output and related activities. A broad-based classification on this would help appropriate classification of dairy farming, poultry, piggery and other farm activities. Similarly, a clear-cut view should be taken on whether tea, coffee, rubber, spices and other plantations are to be classified as a category separate from agricultural activity.
